Reflection Feedback

Plagiarism

  • Do NOT plagiarize. The consequences are very detrimental to your learning and success in the program.
  • This is an entirely individual effort. What you write is entirely yours, in your own words.

Similarity check

  • If the similarity check is close to 50%, it means that half of the reflection are the prompts.
  • Insufficient content means superficial, insufficient reflection.

Content

Reflection time period

  • The time period is ONE WEEK only
  • Time period starts with the class in which the reflection is assigned.

Examples of descriptions that are SPECIFIC to your experience

  • This is the first time, I am using github and pycharm and not aware of the submission process.
  • I collaborated with […], one of my classmates about the bill amount calculation problem, we tried different ways to solve the problem using functions and for loops.
  • In class I told about the steps to write a program, like designing.
  • For me the most challenging was debuging appen()
  • I want to know if the list is too huge, how to access it easily. For example, if there is a word and it’s 90th element, we can’t go counting to figure out it’s in which element

Examples that lack specificity

  • One thing that I struggled with was using code to solve the given issue statement
    • What given issue statement?
  • I had group discussions and collaborations with my classmates
    • Very vague. One can have these discussions in any course or any class. What specific discusison, and with whom, did you have?
  • Got help with error solving
    • What error?
  • Searched some sites like freecodecamp, geeksforgeeks for problem-solving topics
    • What topics? Name one.
  • [so-and-so] helped with understand the question and identify my mistake
    • What quesiton? What mistake?
  • I didn’t find anything challenging, but something I felt tasks difficult to do
    • What specific tasks? Name one.
  • I want to get hands-on experience.
    • On what? For the purpose of the reflection pick one specific example.
  • Learned with the help of online resources
    • Such as? What’s the name of the resource? Give an example of a topic and include the URL of the resource for that particular topic.
  • [one thing learned outside class that was useful was] about some Python coding and abput Pycharm
  • I learnt about few commands and its uses.
  • I read in some books and searched in net too.
  • I have learned some python functions.

More exampls of lacking specificity

“I collaborated with […] in class to understand in easy easy. The outcome was good, I understand so manay things to design and code in python.”

  • What would be an example of “a thing” related to design or to coding?

“Answering the questions for professor in classroom. discussing the difficult topics with other classmates, and clarifying my doubts, rectifying the errors in code”

  • These are many valuable approaches to more effective learning. However, they don’t illustrate the student’s personal experience.
  • What’s an example of a quesiton, or difficult topic, or doubt, or error?

" we collaborated to do work and discussed about the problem solving; we work together to solve the coding problems and errors in labs code"

  • What’s an example of a coding problem or error in the code that was solved through collaboration?

“I started learning python from the basics and i can see a slight improvement in my coding skill” -

  • What example of slight improvement comes to mind?

“[My collaborators] have told me the basics of how to do it and it helped me do it on my own to some extent. Even though there are lot of mistakes in the labs i started learning to do them on my own.”

  • Good reflection. General statements.
  • Next step: what specific evidence does the student have or has experienced?

“I faced challenges while building the logic for the labs. I researched and practiced the basic concepts used for building the logic. The outcomes are like it is still in learning and it is in process.”

“I found rectifying the errors in pycharm and i searched the errors in the google ad tried to solve the errors.”

“I’m learning python from the basics, slowly I’m improving to write the code. I learned how to write the testcases, design and the implementation. Now, I’m learning and improving myself.”

  • Test cases, design, and implementation is a lot to pack in “ONE specific thing learned in class” (especially when it relatesl to Week 7 class in particular).

“I learned how to write design document and incremental development, some basics of python in the class and for my learning these things helped me to do my work and further this basics help to learn python fully.”

  • Intrestingly enough, this is a rephrasing of the previsous response.

Formatting, Language, Mechanics

  • Responses must be in paragraph form
  • Use full sentences, properly written.
  • One-sentence, short responses are not sufficient to address all the items required in one response.

Deadline

Preparing the reflection very close to the deadline adds stress and forces you to rush through the items. Thus, the content of your reflection will be insuficient, and the answers superficial.

Outside Class Collaboration

Collaboration outside class with peers, Classroom Assistants (CAs), instructors, tutors, or student tech consultants should happen.

  • Labs are collaborative and more work happens outside class to complete them
  • Study groups, inclusive of all students, help you gain more practice with the tools, techniques, and programming.
  • Tutoring is also available to all students to better prepare.
  • Public channels on Discord are the place where students ask for help, offer help, clarify issues, and collaborate.
  • Canvas Inbox tool or Discord DMs are means by which students reach out to instructors for one-on-one help.

Evaluation

  • 20% of the credit you receive for the reflection is on outside class collaboration.
  • Not having outside collaboration means 2 points reduction of the grade.

Other Issues

Outside class learning experience MUST relate to learning in THIS course, not other courses.
